Athabasca Basin Security’s CEO, Sascha Sasbrink- Harkema, has been appointed to the Wanuskewin board of directors. Her first meeting was in September.

The Wanuskewin Heritage Park attracts visitors from all around the world and is in the process of trying to earn a UNESCO World Heritage Site designation. Located just north of Saskatoon, the non-profit park has deep ties to the land as visitors can walk the trials throughout the valley, explore a long-running archaeological site and, since 2019, observe bison herds in their natural prairie habitat.

“I am excited to join this passionate group of people who are so dedicated to preserving and celebrating Indigenous culture,” said Sascha. “Darlene Brander and her team are doing such great work in the community, and their efforts to bring back the bison and to achieve UNESCO Heritage status are beneficial for our whole community.”

Sascha has been with Athabasca Basin Security since 2011 and has served as CEO since 2021. She has a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Saskatchewan and is a member of Sakimay First Nation. Athabasca Basin Security (ABS) has nearly 200 employees and serves clients in the mining and industrial sites across western Canada, as well as in the Athabasca region. A 20 plus year company, ABS has a long history of providing quality security services and a strong track record of success in employing Indigenous people, with many sites at over 90% Indigenous employment.
