The Flyer Electric logo is now prominently displayed on a building in Saskatoon’s north side.
The Saskatoon location is home to the electrical contracting company’s fourth branch. Flyer has other locations in Birch Hills, Swift Current and Regina.
“We’ve experienced a lot of growth in the last ten years, and we’re excited to expand our footprint to now include both of Saskatchewan’s biggest cities,” says Terry Tessier, Flyer Electric’s CEO. “A lot of our work is coming from the Saskatoon area, so it made sense to open a branch in this market to better serve our clients.”
Flyer Electric started in Birch Hills in 1982 and this was the company’s only office until 2016. In 2011, CEO and owner Bob Cockwill wanted to retire, and sold the business to Athabasca Basin Development, Sakitawak Development Corporation and management. Terry Tessier took over the helm as CEO shortly after.
“Bob established a strong foundation for this company that we were able to build on,” says Tessier. “Our team has done a lot of great work over the years and Flyer has now grown to become one of the largest electrical contracting companies in Saskatchewan.”
To keep up with the growth, attract and retain employes, and to better serve clients in the area, Flyer opened a second office in Regina in the spring of 2016 and Swift Current came shortly after in the fall of that year. “Having branches in these areas allows us to attract new talent in the area to join the company. We also have a lot of great long-term employees and we wanted options to keep them with the company,” says Tessier.
Flyer Electric continues to grow in all market areas, and is currently particularly searching for qualified and talented individuals to join their Prince Albert market. The company turns 43 this year and provides commercial and industrial electrical services to clients across Saskatchewan, including northern and remote areas. “In the past, a lot of our work was in sites that were far away,” says Tessier. “We still do this work, and now we are well positioned to also do commercial work in and around our branch locations.”
