On August 14-17, 2023, Points Athabasca and QM Points engaged the services of Karlee Robillard, a Mental Health Therapist, along with Glen Strong, Community Relations Coordinator for Points Athabasca/QM Points, to travel to the different work sites occupied by the companies’s employees and delivered information about the different services that are available in the field of mental health.

Presentations included topics such as suicide prevention, addictions issues, community resources and outreach. Karlee offers one on one sessions and is available for questions at any time, as she feels Mental Health is an urgent issue. Karlee’s phone number is 306- 290-5376.

Karlee and Glen travelled to Stony Rapids and met with employees of Lonona, as well as to the Gunnar site just outside of Uranium City, Cigar Lake Mine and the Wollaston Lake Road site, presenting to employees and holding discussions on suicide prevention, depression and general mental health issues. There was also a meeting with the Athabasca Health Authority to discuss how Points Athabasca and AHA could complement each other in delivering Mental Health Services.

In conclusion, it was good to hear the positive feedback from the employees and the consensus regarding the excellent atmosphere they work in. “We are all like one big family,” said Janet Holmgren, Radiation Safety Officer for QM Points. “We all look out for one another.”
