This winter, Rebecca Strong—the 2024 Canada’s Got Talent winner and proud Black Lake Dene First Nation member—returned home for an inspiring concert tour. The tour was sponsored by Athabasca Basin Development and Cameco Corporation and brought Rebecca to five northern Saskatchewan communities.
Rebecca’s tour stops included Stony Rapids, Black Lake, Wollaston Lake, Fond du Lac, and Uranium City. Her shows resonated deeply with audiences of all ages, from emotional ballads to energetic choruses.
Every community put in a visible effort to welcome the singer. The stages were beautifully decorated, and students made colourful signs welcoming Rebecca. The concerts were packed with fans, many of whom stayed afterward for photos and autographs. Kids in particular were thrilled, many singing along and celebrating one of their own. Rebecca was honoured with handmade gifts like fur mittens and moccasins, and her favourite local delicacy—dry meat—as gifts from the community.
Kristy Jackson, Director of Marketing and Communications at Athabasca Basin Development, says, “All the shows were well attended, and you could feel the excitement and joy in each community. Rebecca had a fantastic show at Ben McIntyre School in Uranium City, the last stop on the tour. One of the highlights of that show was having a young fan get up and sing ‘Baby Shark’ with her. He clearly enjoyed the experience of performing for the cheering crowd.”
Arctic Beverages contributed as a snack sponsor, ensuring everyone stayed refreshed throughout the tour and shows. Behind the scenes, countless volunteers and community leaders helped bring the tour to life. “It was heartwarming to see everyone pitching in, school staff, students, Chiefs and band councillors, and residents from across the region,” says Kristy.
Kristin Cuddington, Director of Community and Indigenous Engagement at Cameco Corporation, echoes Kristy’s sentiment: “Supporting initiatives like Rebecca’s tour aligns with our commitment to fostering strong relationships with Indigenous communities. It’s inspiring to see local talent celebrated and to witness the joy it brings to the communities.”
Athabasca Basin Development and Cameco Corporation extend their deepest thanks to the communities, organizers, and other sponsors who made the tour such a resounding success. The Rebecca Strong Tour showcased an extraordinary artist and celebrated the Athabasca region’s resilience, pride, and unity.
